Electrical Engineer II

Title: Electrical Engineer II
Market: Higher Education/Research
FLSA: Exempt

Design of large electrical system components or complete design of medium-sized electrical systems for various projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Lighting and lighting controls
• Short circuit, coordination, and arc flash analysis utilizing Ross and Baruzzini's preferred software
• Grounding and lightning protection systems
• UPS systems
• Design of motor circuits and motor control centers
• Low voltage (under 600V) design of distribution systems including feeder calculations, distribution and branch-circuit panelboards, transformer sizing, voltage drop calculations
• Fire alarm systems, mass notification systems, nurse call systems, paging systems, security systems, telephone and data cabling systems
• Emergency and standby power generation including paralleling
• Grounding systems of low voltage, data, and lightning projection systems
• Edit project electrical specifications
• Prepare electrical cost estimates
• Evaluating electrical systems, making recommendation s, and writing reports
• Determination of seismic implications to electrical equipment and systems
• Prepare drawings using BIM related software (AutoCAD/Revit/Navisworks)
• Work with other disciplines to coordinate project, gather information, etc.
• Correspond and coordinate with utility companies (power and telephone) for service
• Review shop drawings
• Field observation and reporting the progress of electrical work
• Perform site surveys
• Must have a working knowledge of applicable codes
• Knowledge of LEED project certification process
Education and Experience
• Minimum two years' experience in facility design and construction
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor's Degree in Architectural Engineering
• EIT completion
• PE registration is preferred
• Certifications and Registrations: Lighting Certified, Registered Communications Distribution Designer, National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design preferred
Other Requirements
• Individual must have excellent organizational, technical, communication (both written and verbal), and documentation skills and be capable of working with minimal supervision
• Individual must have the capability of researching, reviewing, and developing electrical design criteria for variety of facilities
• Ability to professionally present technical issues to clients, and, when necessary, in laymen's terms
• Self-starter who works well with others
• Willing to work overtime when project schedules require it
