RF Engineer

You will be working in a challenging and progressive environment in which land mobile and fixed-site radio systems and subsystems are designed, engineered and commissioned. Our designs include voice and data radios, TCP / IP, microwave and fiber backhaul and RF based wireless networks for both voice and data communications and remote control of systems.  We design communications sites, towers, shelters, communication rooms, dispatch centers, interconnectivity and console subsystems.

  • Working knowledge of fundamental and complex RF engineering principals, current and legacy radio technologies and products, and mission-critical public safety radio system network engineering, design, implementation, management, and operational best practices
  • Extensive experience in successfully planning, designing and managing procurement and implementation of large public safety radio systems used by police, fire, EMS, and public transportation departments in a major metropolitan area
  • Extensive experience with large public safety radio system requirements, operations, maintenance and inventory
  • Experience with managing the process of acquiring and modifying FCC licenses for large public safety radio, transportation systems in a major metropolitan area
  • Experience with successfully managing the process of specifying, procuring, and installing standards compliant public safety radio site infrastructure including radio towers, shelters, site grounding and electrical systems, generators, and HVAC systems, and assuring that this process is carried out as efficiently and effectively as possible
  • Extensive experience with console sub-system design including analog and IP based systems
  • Experience with performing RF coverage drive testing and interpretation of complied data
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and productive relationships between departments, project team members, and vendors
  • Ability to give clear and consistent instructions to vendors and project team members
  • Must be able to prepare and present clear and effective oral, visual, and written reports and to clearly explain technical issues to public officials, end-users, and other non-technical personnel
  • Proven ability to identify, track, monitor, and report design and project related issues, scope changes, variances, and contingencies that arise in large public safety radio system projects
  • Ability to supervise, mentor, and provide expertise to other project team members

In Addition, you will be required to:

  • Perform RF Communications Engineering tasks in support of project objectives
  • Develop plans for and execute RF communications surveys
  • Perform link or propagation analysis pre/post product deployment
  • Evaluate off-the-shelf RF products as well as products developed or customized specifically for the client
  • Conduct Antenna performance / intermodulation studies for public safety systems
  • Participate in, direct / conduct, and provide input into system test, validation and commissioning activities
  • Provide technical support to program managers and project engineers when communicating with customers


Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (P.E. license a plus)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the RF engineering field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience designing Land Mobile Radio Systems, Wireless Data Systems

  • Experience with the design, operation, testing and evaluation of RF based communications systems
  • Experience in system engineering and specification generation
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Public Safety / First Responder / Mission Critical industry experience
  • Experience with RF land mobile voice and data communications systems
  • Experience with project management, test / validation, and commissioning
  • Experience with both analog and digital land-mobile radio technologies
  • Experience with P25, DMR/dPMR, TETRA, Broadband/LTE, FirstNet
  • Experience with RF Propagation Analysis Software
  • Experience with Spectrum Analyzer and Vector network analyzer
